Subject: We are in the same boat. Would like to book a family cruise while we are there, but can't until we know when she will be dancing. Two years ago, we knew in September (which dates each age group would dance). This year, we didn't know until Jan or Feb. By then, it's nearly impossible to get decent rates on cruises. Ugh.

  • I cannot believe some of the complaints here. It's a competition. Great that you want to work your personal vacation in, but really? So, book afterwards. You have the main dates now. That gives you something to work with. Can't understand why the committee has to jump to provide. Look at the history -- how about it?, 08:11:52 07/24/17 Mon
  • I can understand wanting to know well ahead of schedule. Its the same event every year. If NAIDC insists on running these events on major holidays, of course people are going to plan family vacations around it. Many jobs require requesting time off a year in advance - nurses, police, fireman, etc. -- -, 10:44:07 07/24/17 Mon
  • It may not be only about "personal vacation " but work schedules and getting leave approved well in advance. Not everyone can just take vacation days when they like... it has to be coordinated with others and the 4th is a desireable vacation time for many, not just Irish dancers. A day schedule in advance would really help with that. (NT) -- Not going to judge..., 10:57:04 07/24/17 Mon
  • Your reasoning makes no sense. Jamming the schedule? Registration didn't occur until APR. They released the schedule in JAN.! If your dancer competes 6/30, family has to sit around til 7/5 if they scheduled for after NANs. Some people have to take time off work just to see their child dance & can't take 5 days PLUS days to travel both ways. (NT) -- Best to withhold judgement, 12:24:20 07/24/17 Mon
