Subject: For Trad Sets, yes there are some that are considered simpler than others. For Non-Trad Sets, the choreography is up to the teacher and so it's the teachers choreo that makes it more/less challenging, not the song name. That being said,
In reply to: wondering 's message, "Are there some non-traditional sets that are considered more "difficult or challenging" than others? When my dd was doing a trad set, I was given the impression that St. Patrick's day was less difficult than others. (not sure if that is true). Are some non-trad sets similarly considered less difficult?" on 07:42:59 07/26/17 Wed

the "long ones" are often referred to as being more challenging just for the simple fact that you need better stamina to make it to the end! The long ones would include sets like Planxty Davis, Vanishing Lake, Planxty Hugh O'Donnell, Blackthorn Stick, etc. But it still depends on the choreo - a "short" set like The Hunt could actually be much more difficult than the "long" Planxty Davis if short one had difficult material and the long one had simple material.

  • Interested as to order of difficulty of trad sets. Anyone know? (NT) -- Dm, 10:02:12 07/26/17 Wed
  • Even this is a matter of opinion, and there are several versions to each trad set so the difficulty could depend on the version you have, not to mention what your strengths and weaknesses are (i.e. some people really struggle with rocks, which would make some sets extra difficult). But the general order is: -- --, 11:16:05 07/26/17 Wed
