In reply to: Dm 's message, "Dd is going into her junior year. She has already WQ, but is actually going to concentrate" on 05:26:43 08/03/17 Thu

wanted to add to both the above and to the other response. Colleges want to see a continued effort across all four years in high school, not the sudden rush junior year to take all AP and to do everything. Colleges see through that, they are actually looking for more than two years (really it's the one year, because colleges really don't look past the first half of senior year- and why good guidance folks will tell parents from freshman year onward to encourage their students to be active and take top courses from the start).

While Irish dance, itself, does not really gather scholarships, the continued, concerted effort across many, many years is one thing colleges and universities do look at when reviewing applications. It shows commitment (okay, we should all be committed, right? ;) ), but the reality is that the colleges do like to see commitment to an activity for many years - it's really a plus. Believe it or not, Irish dancing can be a positive deciding point for your student in gaining the acceptance letter.

Best of luck to you and your dancer.
