Author: dancer/stage manger
Subject: sometimes the stage managers don't get the memo to the musicians before they start playing (especially if they're dealing with a question and the dancers/musicians go on auto-pilot). If it's a consistent thing and the stage manager can't help, email the committee afterwards and let them know which musicians are problematic.
In reply to: So frustrating 's message, "Music speed. Why is it never consistent for grades? Even when on the syllabus?" on 15:38:02 08/06/17 Sun

I know the committee I've been involved with doesn't want to hire bad musicians

  • The AD is in charge of the musiC & if sees a problem with song choice, speed, quality of music, etc, the adjudicator will stop the competition and talk to the musician. While music has a specific speed, its live music so Can have some imperfections/variances. Adjusting to live music is one of the most important aspects of Irish dance (NT) -- AD will fix real issues., 07:43:02 08/07/17 Mon
  • Meant to add: make sure novice dancer practices to different music. Los of musicians have songs on Spotify or iTunes. That helps them learn to adjust. (NT) -- Htn, 07:45:07 08/07/17 Mon
  • I've seen many times that the musician plays the wrong dance (jig instead of reel), the poor kids look very confused but try to keep dancing, and the AD doesn't do anything. Finally a parent or TC tells the monitor and the competion has to restart. (NT) -- mp, 08:09:10 08/07/17 Mon
