Subject: Handle it the same way you'd handle changing jobs if it was you. Tell the TC upfront and honestly that you are leaving, and why (without sounding accusatory). Be polite when leaving and, more importantly, be polite afterward(more)

ID is a very small world and if you trash talk your old school or TC it WILL get back to them. Our school had one family that slagged the school, it's TC, the dancers, the choreography, etc for years after they transferred (probably because they transferred because one dancer always came in behind another girl in the school and that didn't change with the transfer). If you are polite and respectful in your transfer it will be best for everyone; our school had another family that left the right way and when they decided two years later that it hadn't been a good idea, they were able to transfer back with no issues.
You can't control how the TC will react to a transfer, but in my 20+ years of experience in this sport, 95% of the TCs will behave like adults and there will be no repercussions. BTW, if one of the reasons for leaving is the TCs difficult personality, you should expect more of the same if you leave lol.
