It is disingenuous to call this a volunteer-run event.
Dancers, parents, teachers, musicians, judges all have a financial stake in these events.
Large fees are paid by dancers - service providers make a living off the events- and whole ID world.
That said, you are absolutely right, many have experienced similar, worse, etc. in majors and even small feis.

What is different this year is that we are all recovering from the effects of the pandemic. Dancers are probably thrilled to have the chance to dance again, but they also have the right to feel disappointed. Parents...etc
Let’s face it, all have their own perspective about the impact of a poorly run event.
And yet, as you pointed out, most keep coming back,
Because we love Irish dance.
We all should keep trying to do better.

Telling anyone to shut up is unnecessary. Venting is human.
If we have learned anything over the past 2 years, I think it’s to treat each other with kindness. Let’s just try to do better.

  • I'm the mom of older teen dancers, and I couldn't agree more with OP. There have clearly been lots of glitches, but the number of changes this committee has needed to adapt to is unprecedented. Losing all Canadian competitors, overseas judges, etc. In hindsight, some of their choices were wrong, but -- hindsight is 20-20, 13:04:59 07/08/21 Thu

  • Oh, please - like they've never run an event like this, before? Glitches? There have been more than glitches and they've not done due diligence to ensure a safe and timely event. They were shortsighted on many parts of it and it shows. Other committees adjusted and changed on the fly as well. That's their job. Sadly, this committee (NT) -- isn't doing it well., 14:06:28 07/08/21 Thu
