First of all, I hope you all had the Best Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanza, Ramadan, etc. and that your New Year is starting out great.

What an exciting, exhausting honeymoon I had!

First, our flight was delayed in Chicago on Christmas Eve. We ended up arriving in Buffalo, New York at 7:30 am Christmas morning. Niagara Falls was just beautiful! We could see the Canadian Horseshoe Falls from our hotel balcony and hear the rushing water. So much snow and it was nice the first couple of days with partly sunny skies. Then on Thursday evening, the 27th, the wind started to blow something fierce. I will NEVER again complain when the wind blows in the winter where I live. That wind was SO COLD! I was wearing a heavy winter coat, 2 pairs of socks, boots, thermal underwear, scarf, gloves and hat and that wind went right through me like I wasn't wearing anything at all! For all of you up north, I wish you continuous heat and protection from that COLD wind and weather.

We left Niagara Falls on the morning of the 30th--no plane delays. We landed in New York City right after noon. It was so good to visit with my cousin Mary and her family. The only bad part (which ended up turning out to be good) was that on the afternoon of the 31st (it was about 4:00 pm) we were heading to Times Square to watch the ball drop for New Year's Eve and the police would not let us (and there were Hundreds of us) cross the barriers to get to Times Square (we were about 2 blocks away). They said that because of concerns for "terrorists" that we should have come earlier--like at noon, and that we would not be allowed to go past the barriers and those who were at Times Square were not being allowed to leave there. What a bummer! We decided to go to Central Park (a BIG, BIG park) for a nice long walk. We came across an older dog, a Hushpuppy dog, who had been apparently just abandoned by his owner. He was whimpering and shivering. You know me, I always have dog and cat food in my purse for emergencies and this fellow just ate up a can of Alpo and started wagging his tail. He didn't have a collar (but with the indent around his neck, it looked like he had been wearing a collar for quite some time) or microchip, so we decided to take him to my cousin's house. I looked up the "Lost and Found" on the Internet and in the Times, but there was no report of a dog like him as missing. On the 3rd of January we took him to the ASPCA and they promised they would investigate what had happened to him. My cousin said that she would love to have him in her home--she already has a dog and a cat and they got along with "Mr. Hushpuppy" (that's the name I gave him). I'll let you know if Mary gets to keep him and if the ASPCA finds out who the heck abandoned him in Central Park. I'm glad that we were turned back from Times Square so that we would be the ones to find this loveable fellow. The nerve of some people to just abandon their pets where anyone could take them and do harm to them. I hope they find the idiot who abandoned this hushpuppy and throws the book at him/her.

We left New York City yesterday morning, and we were delayed (again) in Chicago. We finally got home this morning at 2:30, and of course we sat up most of the night showing Chato the souvenirs we bought and the photos we took and telling him about our trip.

My husband and I just enjoyed being together and being on our honeymoon. If it wasn't for the COLD wind at Niagara Falls, our honeymoon would have been Perfect. I would Love to visit Niagara Falls again--but next time I want to go during the summer; which I heard is warm, but not HOT like it is here in Texas. New York City, probably not. I liked Central Park and finding Mr. Hushpuppy, and visiting my cousin, but that city is TOO BIG for me--I'd be lost day and night if I ever ended up living there--too much confusion and too many buses and subways and taxis to pay for and to try to remember which ones to take to get you where you want to go. Also, it seemed as though every police officer was staring at us, trying to figure out if we were up to no good. Kind of idiotic, like when we had to remove our shoes before heading to the plane during every flight we took. I'm more of a laid-back type of gal who likes to know where she is going to end up before she starts her trip (and to keep my shoes on from start to finish).

I'm going to go back to sleep for a few hours, then I'll be heading to San Antonio to stay with my cousin. He'll sure be interested to see the photos and souvenirs. It will be good to see everyone at work (even my boss). This was a once-in-a-lifetime trip that was worth every penny!

Everyone have a Safe and Happy Week!

Love,
Mercedes
