Matt,
It is very hard to tell what year a Goliath is just by the serial number, but if you look on the ID plate on the passengerside firewall (if it is still there), there should be a year stamped on it. And i would imagine that yours is a 1958. You see, in about July of '58 Goliath changed the rear fenders on both the wagon and the sedan from being rounded, to having tailfins. Now, some of the cars earmarked for importation into the American market sometimes sat around in waiting, And may have been rebadged as '59's. Again, the year should be stamped in the ID plate on the firewall.
As for the parking light/turnsignal lenses, as far as i can tell, all Goliath 1100s had just the parking lights atop the fenders. Starting in about '59, they added the little round "Borgward Isabella style" turnsignal units for the American market cars only, as well as sealed beam headlights. The European market cars did not use these round lights.
Goliath wasn't very consistant in standardizing their parts, using simply what they could find available at the time. So some cars may have had items added or deleted, or may be slightly different in a particular serial number range. For example, some Goliath parking light lenses are made by Hella, and some are by Bosch. and the location of the mounting holes/screws are off from each other just a little bit.
Confusing! But fun!
