Black Louisiana US doesn't advance to a national competiton, right? Then she's not in violation of 2.7.3 of the contract. And the Black Louisiana US director is an MAO director and has done both for many years. Wouldn't you think he'd have this cleared with the board? Additionally, there have been several MAO local titleholders who won Miss Black Louisiana US during their reign (Valeria Williams 2007, Kimberly Rusley 2008, Raven Hollins 2011). So IMO, signs point to nothing needs to happen. Just two locals on the calendar. State meeting is at the beginning of February, so I think there will be more talk then. But the whole debacle with the national organization has dampened any enthusiasm in the program, IMO. If you knew this you would understand that judges are acutely aware of this when judging a preliminary. Talent will count nearly half of the preliminary score as will interview at STATE. You need to have a seat and realize you and your daughter cannot win a preliminary based on swimsuit scores alone. Good day. No, you only have to be a high school graduate. Scholarships are the reward, and there’s no academic requirements. Hope that helps! It’s a combination of GPA, references, GRE/GMAT, and ACT or other scores and the interview process and they assess and provide a combined “score” and accept a graduate student as provisional or conditional with the conditions that a certain GPA is maintained for a set number of semesters. Sorry... But this competition was absolutely horrible. Personally I like the winner. She'll do fine being Gretchen's puppet for the next year. But I've truly never been more bored watching a pageant (or whatever you call it). No swimsuit equals no pageant. Plain and simple. With the exception of two or three gowns, most were bad selections. Miss Louisiana did well, and I applaud her for that. But I cant imagine how MAO moves forward from this disaster of a production. I'm surprised no one is discussing this. Its a HUGE story with a potentially gigantic impact on MAO. Personally I applaud the 23 state directors who have signed the petition to have Gretchen and her group of cronies removed from power. In only a few short months, Gretchen has managed to turn this reputable organization into her own publicity machine, clearly not giving a damn about the actual pageant itself. They are able to host the miss contestants in dormitories, there is an airport albeit a smaller one in Monroe, and an arena for the Miss and ULM has a smaller theatre for the teens since they do not have the numbers to need the civic center. Miss La resides at ULM during her year in an apartment provided free of charge by the university as well.
