In reply to: HC '85 's message, "Possible OOC Games for Next Year" on 11:07:56 05/13/04 Thu

I'll preface my response with the understanding that I'm not shooting the messenger here - just the message.

I would guess there's not even the slightest chance for this.

There's a reason why Louisville did not/would not agree to a home & home with HC. There's a reason why Providence and Uconn won't even play HC anymore let alone a home & home. And it's the same reason a South Carolina won't either.

RPI and SOS issues vis a vis seeding in the NCAA Tournament.

A South Carolina has ZERO to gain and ALOT to lose - both in RPI/SOS issues going in AND a whole lot to lose should HC somehow upset them.

" Played Navy & Yale last year, why not us? "

I think you know the answer to this. Holy Cross isn't in the same area code for political/alumni clout, perceived/actual prestige, global contacts and name recognition as either Navy or Yale.

" Would they be willing to play at the Hart? "

Wake Forest played @ Yale last season....but in Bridgeport in that city's new 9,200-seat arena as opposed to on Yale's campus. Now this was Yale University....and if they had to yield to Wake Forest's demands on venue what makes you think little old HC of the reknowned Patriot League is gonna have even an iota's chance of getting an SEC state school like South Carolina to agree to play us in an antiquated 3,800 seat on-campus gym ?

Again, nothing personal 85.

But I do get upset at themes like this mainly because I'D LOVE to see it happen.

As much as I would like to see it, I'm with Rick, it'll never happen. Two words Patriot League..

As much as some don't want to here it on this board, The PL will keep us from attaining any BB prowess(remember, the only measurable win we have in the last 4 years was BC). The only games of any stature we have had at home in the last 10 years have been Umass and BC. Umass dropped us and BC has a 2-1 and we play at BC next year and who knows how much longer they will continue.

Year in and year out we hear the same things RPI and SOS. Well, when looking at the PL, you have no team higher than 120 and most at 200 or below. That's weak by any standards. Not only do you need to pick that up to get a decent team up here, but you also have to guarantee them $$ to come up. How can you do that at the Hart? HC doesn't want to use the Centrum and has put forth no effort to schedule more games there. As was mentioned, why not a in season tourney? Colonial classic, etc. Again, the reason PL.

As long as we reamain, you will only see low major teams coming in and you may get a couple in season games away against top 75 competition, but I have learned not to expect anymore than that. It's just the facts.

You need an administration that wants to see these games happen year in and year out, and does everything to make that happen, we don't presently have that leadership.
