As my year indicates, I was there at the time. Seems as though the College was in many wyas very concerned about liability, perhaps overly so. Originally, it was thought that the players got into some bad food in a dinner that the team had breakfast in on the way to Dartmouth. Subsequently it was ascertained that the source of the contamination was the drinking water on the practice field and I suspect the shool had some liability concerns.
I think the members of that team should be honored this fall by the Cross, an honor they never really got while students. They would have been honored if they were a group of students injured on a bus trip on school business and I think such an honor is long overdue. I don't recall that there were even extra tutors provided to help them cope with their studies while suffering from the disease.
Why not bring the entire team back for a honor at one of the home games this fall? I for one would enjoy seeing some of my old class and corridor mates. It could also be a PR masterpiece if done properly. We need to start on this now so that all of the pieces fall into place. Good opprtunity to see how good the new media director really is as this is a unique situation. What other school has an opportunity to have a 35th anniversary of this event??
