...is it me, or does it seem that every time Mr. Raider voices a thoughtful opinion, either he or his alma mater gets mercilessly attacked. Let's stick to the issues, or forget the posts.

If he were to post thoughtful opinions, no one would object. However, his posts are frequently so full of PL elitism that they merit a response. I presume you find it acceptable for him to knock Notre Dame but it is an attack if anyone expresses an opinion that Colgate might not be a better instituiton that ND.

I just can not accept his PL induced feelings that there are too many kids in college and that some should be in trade schools. It wasn't that long ago that my folks got off the boat and found the way to success for thier offspring was the Catholic higher education system.

Sorry, there is nothing thoughtful about his post this time. I have no issue with his opinions, just his prejudices!!!

How does he explain the fact that Georgetown is 18th in the nation in selectivity and Notre Dame 30th? Both way ahead of any PL school? Check it out: http://www.consusgroup.com/news/rankings/colleges/selectivity.asp.

By the way, BC made(tied with Wake Forrest at 59th)the list and the Cross did not. Colgate (46th)was the only Pl school to make the list of the top 65 schools in terms of selectivity.

Have ND, GTown and BC established that it is possible to excell in both academics and atheletics, at least in one sport? Kind of reminds me of the old Holy Cross.
So, Gate Raider, keep your posts knocking ND to yourself until Colgate moves up to the level of Georgetown, ND and BC in terms of selectivity.

And Lehigh is ahead of BC on US News list -- Holy Cross is way ahead of BC on Bloomberg's Top Private Colleges list -- in fact, BC isn't even on it -- not to mention that both the Princeton Review and the Fiske Guide to Colleges give HC higher academic ratings than BC -- look, I'm no fan of the Patriot League but I'm really tired of people like Purple '71 who constantly put the school down -- how about every once in a while pointing out the good trends at HC the past few years -- or are some people so bitter that they can't find the energy to be just a little bit positive every so often --

my objection(and other posters)to the way bc,g'town and und have gone about their dual roles is that they often take minimum qualifiers for at least one if not 2 sports--some of these athletes have disgraced the names of these institutions, but their policies persist--so if this is the price to pay for higher academic rankings and big time athletics, i'll take hc's path ,flawed though it may be
