Rick - "Defeatist" was my initial reaction too that night..but your points are well taken. It appears that somehow/someway they are going to have to break through with a big win on the road, as difficult a task as that is.

And NTK - this is the honest truth: my follow-up question that night was to make a plea for a trip to Pepperdine! At least that got a chuckle instead of a smirk..

" I'd like to think that Dick is not a defeatist but a realist. I'm sure he knows more about the operative numbers here and hence his indication that this would be a tough one to pull off successfully. "

I'll hold onto my 'defeatist' for a bit.

A 'realist' - assuming he's in fact actively looking at this and WANTS to see it happen - would be lining up a corporate sponsor or two to pull this off at the Centrum. Any idea who the largest local bank is in Worcester County these days ? A 'realist' might also look to partner with the C of C on this. AIR, the old Colonial Classic with BC, PC and Umass drew fans interest for several years in pre-Patriot days, did it not ? A 'realist' might look to parlay off the recent success of HC's hockey team by scheduling an early season evening or afternoon hockey tilt ( not to conflict with the hoops games ) with BU, BC, Maine on campus to make it a BIG weekend event for alums.

I'm guessing with BC on board within a year, the ACC might be tempted to woo the local hoops fans ( AND maybe recruits ) a little....and ACC fans travel BIG time. Howz about Wake Forest or Duke vs. Louisville or Marquette and say Umass or PC vs. HC ?

The 'defeatist' smirks and thinks it'll never work. A 'realist' might exhaust all possibilities and perhaps find a way. But I think the old Patriot RPI/SOS thing is a huge obstacle in this idea for the foreseeable future.

Pepperdine ? Geezes, if Ralph takes the kids out there he's liable to lose a few to transfer ! That is IMO THE most spectacular campus setting I've ever seen ! You ever seen it ? Their baseball stadium....WOW !....a panoramic view from a bluff of the Pacific beyond the outfield fence !
