amen ! nht has it right - our school can reach a wider audience (general public and prospective students) with an athletic program that has success as a realistic goal for every team, not just a couple.

I agree. Do you think St. Joe's might get a few more applications this year? Of course the school has to ultimately stand as an academic institution. But sports get kids to take that first look at your school.

Sports gets athletes to take a first look at a school. Good academics and winning teams get good student athletes to look at a school. That is what HC and Colgate are are interested in attracting.
