I don't mind Gate Raider's shots at us - I take it all in good fun and it does spice up the board. We certainly don't want to have a bunch of clones or groupthink.
And I'm sure the comment I'm about to make will generate some heat too.
I couldn't care less if HC came in dead last in the President's Cup rankings in the PL every single year. Basketball, football, hockey and soccer are sports that can get the college recognized throughout the country. Minor sports are minor sports and are for the enjoyment of the participants. I see the major sports (not necessarily "revenue sports") as being a way to get the school's name out around the country. The minor sports don't do that.
Minor sports, for me, are a half step ahead of intramurals. Now, for all you former swimmers, track and field athletes, tennis players, crew, etc., good for you that you did all this, kept physically fit and had a good time. A college is not a high school where you have to take required physical education courses. I support HC having minor sports teams and the financial cost for them but I'm not going to lose sleep if we don't do well in them. I'm also not going to worry about some kid not going to HC because he/she likes and participates in a particular minor sport but won't go to HC because our school isn't good in that particular sport.
'sader1970 is pretty much dead on. I tried to get excited about the women's softball team in the NCAA's last year, and just couldn't pull it off. Congrats to the girls, but no one other than their families cared that much.
I think I speak for most 'gate fans when I wish HC the best (though I do take umbrage with some posts -- and have said so here).
Also, lacrosse could be the sport with the greatest potential in the PL, though I am not personally a fan.
