I am 42 and have had problems with occassional constipation for about 10 years. Saturday morning I ate a bowl of All Bran cereal for breakfast as I felt a little bloated and constipated. Nothing happened all day Saturday, so at bedtime I took an overnight laxative (Correctol). Sunday morning I was still constipated. After church, I had my husband stop at Walgreens and I bought a 2 quart fountain syringe. I also had him stop at KFC and get take out so I wouldn't have to bother with fixing dinner for him and the kids before taking an enema.

When we got home, I got undressed and fixed a bag of warm water and hung it in the shower. However, the enema did not give me much relief. I put on my robe and went out in the kitchen to tell my family to save me some chicken for me and to tell my husband that I needed to take another enema. Upon my return to the bathroom I took out a Fleet enema from the closet. (I have always used Fleet enemas but after my last Fleet enema I had decided to try using the bag.) However, at the last minute I decided to give the bag one more try. This time I filled it with liquid Soft Soap, the soap that I bathe with. When I filled the bag with water I had suds coming out the top of the bag! I took another enema standing in the shower and this enema really worked. I felt so much better than I have felt after taking a Fleet enema.

A pharmacist once told me to first take a natural laxative which was the All Bran cereal (which works sometimes). She told me if that didn't work, take an overnite laxative (which works more times than not), and as a last resort take an enema. This is what I did this past Labor Day weekend.

The reason for telling you this, is that I would appreciate hearing about the steps you take to relieve constipation.

I understandand your enema problem It involves holding the enema in you + and your diet. An enema is a laxitave and will clear out you lower intestine and make you feel better. I have more info if you like. The enema , if properly given can clear out an obstruction, which can make you very confortable. An enema bag is very esential with an enema tip that is comfortable, but the solution is important. You can take an enema alone or have someone give it to you. Hope you feel better.

To Brittany:

Glad you gave "Old Reliable" a second chance. An enema properly administered and taken and held should work the
first time and every time. Apparently, you are not very
experienced in taking enemas - you indicated that you have
suffered from constipation for 10 years and you had to buy
a fountain syringe. Is this your first enema purchase?
Why did you not have one at home?
May I suggest that you read up on some proper techniques
for taking enemas.
Go to: www.geocities.com/valerie_cct/enemas.html
or www.enemabag.com
These two sites give some very straightforward and
accurate techniques for taking successful enemas.
Good luck and have a positive attitude.

Mine is pretty simple. At first sign of feeling somewhat constipated, I drink a glass of prune juice. I don't like the taste of it very well but it is not all that bad. If that doesn't work, I take an overnight laxative. And last resort is an enema. I find I have to drink prune juice once every 10 days or so. I take a laxative about every couple of months. So far I have taken two or three enemas this year.

How many steps do you need?
Let's see:
1)try to "go"
2)get out the enema bag.
3)Pour in some soap.
4)Think about how long it's been since your last BM. If it's been more than 2 days, add a little Epsom Salt.
5)Carry the bag over to the bathtub.
6)Turn the water on slow, and let it run hot. When it gets to hot, bring in some cold water to get the temp right. You want warm but not hot. Let the bag fill all the way to the top.
7)Attach the hose.
8)Carry it into the bedroom, or, get a couple of pillows and a towel, and put them on the bathroom floor.
9)Hang the enema bag so it is about 3 ft above where your rectum will be when you are in position.
10)attach the nozzle.
11)Take off any clothes you are wearing, and get into your bath robe.
12)Get into either the Simms or the Knee-chest position.
12)Slowly, and gently insert the nozzle fully into your rectum.
13)Relax.
14)Open the valve.

That is essentially the "Steps" you take for constipation.

I've never had any luck with "mild" laxatives. I hate the cramps created with the "gut buster" laxatives so I resort to either glycerin suppositories or an enema as the relief of choice. Suppositories if I'm in a hurry or enema if I have the time or am severely constipated. I can't use Fleets...They tear up my mucous membranes.

I agree with Muriel (above). Suffers from constipation for
10 years and doesn't own her own enema equipment and finally buys one and then complains it didn't completely
work. Doesn't add up.

I've had varied experiences with Dulcolax. That is actually one thing that drove me back to enemas!
I've taken Dulcolax tablets exactly twice in my life as a stand-alone, though I have no plans to take it that way again.

I've had it as a pre-enema in a complete cleanout.
.
Here's why:
One morning I got up on my day off, and needed an enema, but I didn't really feel like taking one!

I decided that I would take 6 Dulcolax instead. I swallowed them about 6:20AM and skipped breakfast.

Since I was off, I was dressed in a simple muumuu, cross over bra, and panties. Nothing else! I knew I had taken a high dose of laxative so I made sure the toilet lid was up and the seat down.

I got no feeling like I had taken a laxative, or any thing! 10:00AM, no sign I'd taken it! Drank as much water as I could stand. Noon: No sign of anything happening. Drank some Gatorade, but didn't eat. 1:00PM didn't feel hungry, but that was the only thing going on in my gut! 2:00PM, I passed a whole lot of gas, many times more than usual, but still no feeling like there was anything happening!

3:50PM, I was sitting at my computer, wondering if I should declare a failure and get out the Fleet enemas. All of a sudden, I could just barely make it the 15 steps from my desktop computer in the bedroom to the toilet! It was about what I would normally expect from a Fleet enema! Only ONE movement, and that was it!!!

About 6 months later with that memory in mind, I said to myself, "OK, from 6:20AM to 3:50PM was 8-1/2 hours, soooo, if I take the same thing about 9:30PM, half-hour before bed time, I should get good results when it's about the time I usually wake up! I made sure the toilet lid was up, and the seat down, knowing I was not going to get much warning!
I took the same thing, from the same card of Dulcolax!
I lay down and tried to go to sleep in the same way I normally do. By 10:30, I was feeling the same way I feel if I try to sleep after having too much caffeine. Just could not settle down. About 11:45, I started passing a lot of gas, just like before, but I still was like being amped up on caffeine! I got no sleep at all the whole night!
Typically, when you take a laxative, there comes a point before it kicks in where you get a "churning" or nausea, and then the feeling like you have diarrhea but can't go right now!! That started happening about 3:00AM! I felt so bad, I got up, and actually took a glycerin suppository to try to speed things along. At about 4:15AM, I got the same result as I had gotten those months earlier in the afternoon.
My father raised me as a single parent, I've never met my mother. I called him on my cell later that day, and he told me of a weird experience he'd had with a Dulcolax suppository within a few days of my first time with the Dulcolax months earlier. He said that he now considers Bisacodyl, the active ingredient in Dulcolax to be unpredictable and erratic, and he will only use the Fleet Bisacodyl mini-enema as a pre-enema before an Epsom Salt and soapsuds, and not otherwise!

Is there any reason I shouldn't do the same?

I like suppositories much better than enemas. Today was one of those days when I was constipated. As soon as I got home from work, I got undressed, inserted a suppository, put on my robe, and did some housework while waiting for that strong urge to go. And it was very effective. My last bout with constipation was on my 38th birthday this past June. Only the suppository didn't work so good and I had to take a soapsuds enema. I have probably taken 10 suppositories so far this year and only two enemas.

I don't like the unpredictability of laxatives and the amount of time they take to work. For me, it's a soapsuds enema. The results happen immediately.

I've had Fleets but they give me an uncomfortable feeling. Maybe they're more convenient because there's no prep to do other than opening the box and removing the cap, but I dislike the feeling they cause for me. Plus, a good sopasuds enema seems to get more out. So I just go with a good bagful of soapy water.

Florence,

Giving an enema to yourself can be irksome, but you could always hire-in an enema nurse.

That has been successful for me.

My first choice is an enema, but like so many others, I hate going solo. And since my husband travels a great deal, he always associates giving me an enema with "playtime".

Therefore, I use Ex-Lax and have found it to be very dependable. Taken at 10PM, it will work about 6AM in the morning, then about 15 minutes later. For me it is so dependable, I will not hesitate to take it even the night before I have to go to work. And since I always get constipated while traveling on business, or vacation, I keep a box in my makeup bag.

Hi Tillie,Havn't seen you post in a while. How have you been? I miss the G&M Forum. It was a nice and group of women to share with, especially in the beginning. Do you know if Lynn Locke still has a site? Good to hear from you.

Hi Anna. Always glad to hear from someone from G&M.

The last I had heard Mike's health had really gone downhill and she was pretty much a full time caretaker. I later read she had pretty much given up on her business and had even sold off her namerights on the web.

Anna

Glad to hear from you. Seems that us who also wear girdles also have another common thing we happen to enjoy. Maybe just a common kink factor.

While Lynn had her shows, there was a great deal more went on than just girdles. Or so I was told.

Hi Tillie,Unfortunately, I think there are very few of us that share the same interests. Did you know of any other women from the G&M board that also enjoyed enemas? If I am not being to forward, I would love for you to email me.....Anna e1420607@webtv.net

Hi Tillie,OK, you have me curious from your last post. Can you share about what you heard that went on at Lynn's shows? I know this is not related to this board, but can you share? Anna

I was invited to attend several shows, Boston and Nashville, both as a guest and a model. Due to circumstances, mostly time off from work, I was unable to do so,though it would have been fun.

Word got back to me by a close friend who did attend, that after the get-together on Friday night and the show on Saturday night, that a few people had a good session with the little red bag.

Take it with a grain of salt for what it's worth.

The G@M meant Girdles And More and was a forum for girdles, garterbelts, stockings and bras.

It was based in Germany, but due to some EU rules, the owners pulled the plug.
