Correctol was originally a combination of Docusate (a detergent/stool softener) and Yellow Phenolpthalein (an effective laxative).
When the FDA moved to ban Phenolphthalein based products in the late 1990's, Correctol was reformulated, and became 5mg Bisacodyl (aka Dulcolax). At that point there was nothing to distinguish Correctol from any other Bisacodyl based laxative, and the market share began to decrease.
Couple the decreasing market share with the sale of the Company that made the product(Schering-Plough) to Merck. Merck doesn't want to spend any money marketing Correctol, so the product is literally disappearing from the retail market place. According to Merck, it is still available, but absent any marketing effort, it will continue to disappear.
