A wonderful visiting nurse named Angie taught me this nearly 30 years ago. She gently laid a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel below my tummy for a few minutes while she prepared the enema. Lying on my left side, I was also clutched the hot water bottle against my abdomen while Angie gave the enema. Because I was plugged up from the meds and bloated, the warmth from the hot water bottle felt soooooo good. It also minimized cramping.
If you're taking a solo enema, try the hot water bottle first yourself before proceeding. If you have a partner (my husband is the best for me!), so much the better. Try this. I think you will love the warmth, especially on a cold winter's day.

Catherine, My neighbor gave me my first real enema when I was a teen. She had me lay on my back on the bed with my knees pulled up and she put the hot water bottle on my lower tummy. She said the heat from the hot water bottle on the outside and the hot water from the enema on the inside would help my period cramps. She was right...Anna

My colon therapist usually offers me one before my enema or colonic.
Relaxes me, plus a warm blanket is put over me. LOL
