My oldest, now 26, complained of painful cramps only on certain months. I was sure that if she was stressing about something when her period hit (usually grades or a boyfriend), that's when the cramps seemed most painful. Her insides would rebel by being "too loose" or she'd be plugged up, just like me. (We're certainly two of a kind!)
We found that a hot water bottle, Tylenol and getting Jen to lie down and relax for an hour or two were usually the best remedies. If she was constipated (when she would admit it!), she would let me give her a warm spring water enema (salt and soda added). Half a bag taken very slowly so she could retain the enema for a few minutes always seemed to do the trick, both for triggering a good BM and relieving the cramping. Jen still does this when she needs to.
