Kayla, it's terrific that you found something that works well for you. Not only that but you didn't feel compelled to fill the bag with two quarts in order to get the needed relief.

For some time I have said on these boards that you need to make a comfortable enema which means finding the right quantity, making it the right temperature, and not taking it too fast. If most moms would do that there would be far fewer saying that their children fuss too much about taking enemas for them.

Christine, you are so right. My first enema about a year ago thTat I had to take before a medical procedure was so uncomfortable. A couple of weeks ago I was constipated and knew I needed an enama but just hated to take one. So I called my sister who is a nurse. She said to drink a cup of hot coffee before taking the enema to get something hot in my stomach. Then get the warm water "just cloudy or barely sudzy" as she put it. She said she takes one third of the bag at a time. This was a much more comfortable enema and still did the job. The soap was enough to stimulate the bowel but not enough to cause a burning sensation. One third of a bag of water was a comfortable amount to hold for a couple of minutes, but not enough to cause cramping. This is the way I will take my enemas from now on.
