I have often thought that it works so well not because of the leg lock itself, but because children associate it with spankings. Maybe they are saying to themselves, "Mom is in control so I had better take this enema like a good boy" and that thought, not the leg lock itself, puts an end to their squirminess. They need to understand that inserting the tube won't hurt if they can hold still for that several seconds that it takes you to do that. Otherwise, you just have to make sure they stay in position and let them squirm! They're kids!
