Dear Melissa. Interesting to hear that you enema your boy
with a higgenson syringe.Seems like its making a bit of
a comeback. My aunt had one long ago for her kids an
sometimes used it on me when I stayed with them
I found the pumping action was gentle and easy to take,
not like the old duchcan my mom used, cause if she set it
too high it made my enema go in too fast an it really hurt.
Im thinking of getting a higginson for my two girls age 7
and 9. If I may ask where did you buy yours?
I might suggest you pump a bit more slowly if you give it
to your son, maybe give a small quantity first, help him
retain it with a tummy massage, then expell and see if
he can take some more.I remember my aunt giving it to me
like that.
kind regards Debby

Hi Debby, I bought the Higginson syringe from my local pharmacy a few years ago, my boy was eleven when I got it and as above I thought it would help me get more into him as he got bigger. The store had to order it for me as they only stocked bags and Fleets. As it happened it didn't really make much difference from the bag, putting my boy on his back made more of a difference really - immediately he could take more than having him over my lap, so that's how I've done it since. Personally I'm not a fan of the higginson and as I said, the rest of us use the bag, but I feel it's useful with my son as in theory I can pump the water in and more of it. Thanks for the advice, I intend to try a couple of slow enemas while rubbing his tummy, hopefully using the douche nozzle if I can find it. With luck all this will help.

Melissa,

I have had much the same difficutly with giving my boys the enemas they needed.

I did find out, after a period of time, that the child CAN feel the 'surge' of your pumping action, so I suggest you very slowly, and carefully, SQUEEZE the bulb, to REDUCE the surge-feeling.

I found that the 'nicer' I could make the enema, by not over-forcefully pumping each bulbful, the more enema solution I could get into each of my boys.

[My girl never complained about HER enemas].
