Laura, my husband and I have only been married for less than a year, so there are no kids yet. But I can tell you that I can get him to retain the full bag of soapy water that I give him for as long as I want. I use the "reward" system. I keep telling him while he is holding his two quarts how I am going to use my mouth to make his "third leg" so very happy but he won't get his reward if he doesn't retain until mommy says that her little boy can expel. It works every time!

I'm not into setting any records. Instead of watching the clock, I wait until after the first cramp has gone away. Much of the time I use soap suds enemas. Depending on the water temperature, the length of time the soap bars are in the water, the amount of soap stiring and lot of other things I'm sure, the time until the first cramp hits is variable. Sometimes an enema is easy to hold and other times it is a dash to the bathroom after a very short hold time. Some times the cramps hit as soon as the bag is empty - or before. I generally try to just get a milky solution ... sometimes with a few small bubbles on the water surface. In other word I try to take a mild SSE which cleans me out but is comfortable. The wait time might be about 5 minutes before I have a cramp if every thing goes well. I think at least one cramp is needed to get a good result.
