 When taking a soapy enema with Ivory soap or when taking a tapwater enema using baking soada, is it necessary to have a plain water rinse enema afterwards to rinse out the soapy residue or baking soda?

I've asked my Mom who's a nurse the same question. If you have taken an enema with Ivory soap, it's best to do a rinse with warm water at about 100 degrees. Rest in between to make sure you're fully "expelled." If using baking soda in small amounts (1 tablespoon/1 quart) and mixed well, her recommendation is that a rinse is usually not needed.

BTW, Mom recommends against using Ivory. It may leave too much of a residue in the colon. She prefers the liquid Castile, J&J baby soap or Conti castile with olive oil. You don't need much in the enema to stimulate a movement -- just make the water a little milky.

Ivory soap enemas should not be rinsed. The Ivory soap raises the pH levels in your colon helping to maintain or work on the body's problem areas. If you do a rinse, you eliminate the pH that the enema originally supplied. Many moms, myself included, prefer to give two enemas. If you are doing that, make both of the enemas Ivory soapsuds. The soap, although an irritant, will not do any harm. Most of it is eliminated when one expels.
