I've always used a Clorox solution on anything I thought might be contaminated. The old enema gear was so superior to what is made today that I buy old stuff when I can. Getting an old syringe with the old black nozzels is a real find. I've used a procedure very much like Lisa's and have never had a problem. If you have the good fortune of finding an old rubber bag in good condition be sure to store it dry and out of the heat and sun light, otherwise the rubber will crack and become useless. These things are collector items.

I bought a couple of vintage syringes on ebay and ruined one by using Clorox on it. The bleach seems to have attacked the rubber and it tore soon after. I did not use bleach on the later purchases. Instead I used only hand soap and hot water. I think that the fountain syringes that I bought probably had not been used in a long time, but, of course, one should not take chances on careless cleaning.
I wonder what was done to clean syringes in hospitals when the same syringes were used again and again on different patients?
