Subject: What in the World is a "Decision"?

SO, I keep reading in the UTA website that UTA has lost a "decision", a "14 point decision", etc.

I have no idea what this means. In boxing it makes sense, there are judges, they must decide, a split decision is easy to reckon. But in basketball and baseball, this is throwing me for a loop. What kind of decision could there be? Either you win or you lose, right? If you lose by 14, the only decision is that your team decided not to play that day, isn't that about it?

Can someone please explain this to me?
