Expansion without football is a non starter. The referendum did not give the administration the option to take the $2 fee just for golf and soccer. Without football in the mix, they would have to go back and run a new election to get permission to collect this tax. And without the $2, we can't afford to expand, period.

More likely, if JS isn't ready to go for football, golf and soccer right now, he is probably concerned with the issue of how long the $2 offer will remain on the table. Can he come back in 3 years? 5? 10? Overall, it would be a real tragedy if UTA passed up on this historic opportunity. There may never be another time as good to make this move.

On the other hand, maybe he can pull a "spring surprise" and somehow engineer the new arena, plus set a fundraising goal that would present the potential for athletics expansion IF fans will pony up the startup costs. I would consider that a fair result.
