Swapping for School Spirit
Students can trade other university apparel for UTA clothes

The UTA Ambassadors will hold its first Maverick Swap at 10 a.m. until supplies run out Sept. 15 on the Central Library mall. The ambassadors have purchased 300 T-shirts, 50 baby T-shirts and 250 hats. However, because of limited supplies, students will be restricted to two shirts and one hat.

UTA students can trade in their old college apparel for new UTA shirts and hats at the Maverick Swap. Funded by the Office of Student Affairs, the ambassadors will swap blue or white shirts and blue or white hats.

Mr. UTA Charles Nobles said in the past UT-Austin, Texas A&M University and Texas Tech University apparel has dominated this campus and hopes this will help increase the amount of UTA apparel that appears around campus.

Nobles added that even though more UTA apparel can be seen this year, more blue and white is needed on campus.

“That’s why we made it so we could start seeing some of these shirts,” he said.

Undeclared sophomore Byron Berry said that he would rather keep his UT-Austin and Louisiana State University apparel even though some people might like trading in their old clothes.

Business management junior Marcus Raven said he would participate in the Mavericks Swap so that he could show a little school spirit. Electrical engineering junior Mananga Swami said that he thinks it’s a good idea, but he doesn’t have any clothes from other colleges to trade.

Nobles said the traded shirts will possibly be sent to a charity overseas. However, he added they are still researching which program they will send the clothes to.

Nobles said that they are considering a program in Africa.

In all, he hopes the swap will be the start of a tradition.

“I think people are going to start having more pride in the University,” Nobles said.

This might be a great opportunity to clean up your roommates.
