Subject: Hi! I've just had reconstructive surgery on my ankle (3 weeks ago). What are you having done exactly. I had the ligaments tightened after a very bad fall at dancing a year ago and had not healed. I'm now on the first week of my fiberglass cast which is very light weight and easy to get around in. MORE INSIDE......

I had a huge post-op cast on for two weeks which was a serious drag not being able to get up off the couch (as easy as it sounds!). You should find out from your surgeon if they are going to give you an 'ankle block' which is where they put general anestetic around your ankle so you don't feel any pain for about 15 hours after the operation. I found that the first morning i woke up at home i was in alot of pain because everything had worn off so make sure you get topped up in the middle of the night. But now i'm totally off pain killers and walking resonably normally with the walking cast. One thing is that i went through serious withdrawl from dancing :P Can't wait to get back into it! Good luck for your surgery, hope you get back on you feet soon!
