Hi - I have had sesamoiditis (pain around the big toe joint) for over a year and a half now. I have been to many physiotherapists but most of them have told me there is not much you can due except from ice my foot. I have orthotics, got a bone scan when the paint initially started to ensure it was not a fracture - which the scan said it wasn't, and have tried taking breaks from dance - the most recent one being approx. 3 weeks. These breaks have not helped my sesamoiditis at all. I generally keep dancing but enventually my foot is very sore and I feel that my big toe flexibility is very minimal (often necessary for being high on your toes)! I have tried going to physio very regularly which helps a bit but this practice grows very expensive. I also have shin splints which one physio thought may be related to the sesamoiditis as the tendon which becomes inflamed with sesamoiditis continues to run up the calf and tightness here could cause pain in both areas. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions of how to help - asides from having surgery. Thanks alot!!
