My son suffered off and on for nearly a year. A good physio, ice the knee upto 6 times a day for 20min each time, massage from me and building muscle groups which support the knees can all help. Plus loads of stretching. The patella band did help some but not much. Also used the product 'oscon'. Don't over due the exercise which is causing the knee to inflam even more. Stop/start puts much pressure on the knee. Possibly the best advice was to keep icing. And have a good physio keep on top of the problem.. it will get better. My dancer placed top 3 in the worlds whilst at his worst as we tried hard to manage the pain. Also did ibuprofen a few days leading upto a major.
