I encountered this woman twice in my short stay in a pediatrics ward. She was in my mind "mean", but as we know, most nurses went through their duties, repeatedly, and unless one had a bad day, they did what they had to do. It probably bored them real quickly too, lest they got a "struggler" boy or girl during their vitals or injections! First, on being sent through the admission process, all pediatric patients had their vitals taken at least two or three times, which in my case meant getting a rectal thermometer sent up my butt on each station. When I got to 'her' floor, again TPR...and as I laid face down, my pants lowered, she grabbed my underpants waistband to pull them down doing so very intently and rapidly to insert the thermometer that she almost pulled me off the table! She was also instructing a group of young student nurses (females)who would soon be taking temperatures too. My second encounter was when she had to give me two butt injections (sedatives) the day of my surgery. That was where I pleaded for them to go in my arms...no deal, and tears came to my eyes when each cheek got injected. Do you have "mean nurse horror story/ies" to tell? We'd enjoy hearing them! The afternoon nurse came in and I was woken up to my bottom being bared for a rectal temperature. She flipped me over and rammed the thermometer in and I woke up to her yelling at me do not move. After she took it out she yelled again not to move. Her stern voice scared me and then I felt two shots one in each cheek and then she shoved a suppository up my bottom. The next night she came in and told me to roll over because she had to take my temperature and it was going in my bottom and she did not have all day. think the whole entire hospital knew. I rolled over and she yanked my underwear down. I felt the thermometer shoved in my bottom and then the pain of shots. I was crying and she just said it was all over. When my husband came in to see me I told him, but his response was oh she was just doing her job. I let I go and for the entire stay if she was on that is how it was. Rectal temperatures, buttocks injections and suppositories. Were you as the patient, informed that when your temperature was taken, obviously, rectally, that it was hospital policy to do so or doctor ordered? With an oral/jaw problem, I can see a different route, though again, unless medically necessitated, rectal readings could be not required and an ear, oral or underarm reading taken. Were you told you'd be getting four, if not more shots in your buttocks? And to this day, do you still think she was "mean"? How old were you then? [ Post a Reply to This Message ]

All medicine was shot or suppositories and rectal was doctors orders so I did not get a fever or reaction of medication. Basically I could not get sick my jaw was wired shut.
