Subject: Anyone get an exam or procedure by a relative?

I realize hospitals have policies that doctors should not treat their family members but has anyone ever had a medical procedure from a family member?

I was 23 and had been going with my girl friend (now my wife) for two years when I experienced a sharp abdominal pain while playing soccer. My girlfriend wasn't there but I was taken to the nearest ER. Ths doctor diagnosed me with appendicitis. My girlfriend's mom was a nurse at the hospital but I hadn't really thought about it. I was taken to a room where I was given a sedative to relax me and told someone would come in shortly to prepare me for surgery. Whe
n my girlfriend's mother walked in, said hello, and told me she would be prepping me for surgery.I wanted to jumpe off the table but felt too relaxed from the sedative. She was a very attractive 40 year old, and my face turned beet red with embarrassment. She was very professional and never did anything inappropriate, but I really would preferred a stranger rather than someone I knew and would have future interactions. She explained everything step by step before she proceeded. She explained I would be shaven clean from my belly button down to my upper thighs. She untied the hospital gown from the back and I was lying there stark naked. I was embarrassed and was wondering how I could ever look her straight in the face again. As I stated before she never did anything wrong and other than me getting an erection while she prepped me (she assured me that this was normal) she treated me like any other patient. I now often wonder if other family members were given exams or procedures either accidently or planned?

Our niece is a nurse at our doctor's clinic. Sometimes she does our preliminary workups when we have an appointment, including weighing us, taking our BP's, etc. When the visit calls for one or both of us to disrobe, we haven't seen any need to request a different nurse, since our niece is very competent and we like talking with her. She's the one that told us that if we didn't like the paper gowns they use now, we didn't need to wear them, no one would mind.
