I was 11 years old the last time I got my temperature taken rectally. My father's girlfriend, who was a school doctor took it. She made me lie on my bed on my side and pulled down my pants, then she pushed the thermometer in my butt and left it for 3 minutes.

I was 33 two year ago when I had the flu. My wife insisted on taking my temperature rectally because I was vomiting at first, then coughing relentlessly. It pays to marry a nurse that can take family health matters in stride. Had I not been so sick with nausea, I probably wouldn't have let Kristen within a mile of my butt with a thermometer. I'm glad she did it that way to be honest though. I could turn over and rest while she took my temperature. No having to hold my head up for an oral temperature or hearing an ear thermometer beeping away. It was completely painless every time she took it rectally because she was super gentle. A lot of men, or wives for that matter, would've died of embarrassment over doing something like this. If you can't bare your naked rear end to your wife or husband without being embarrassed, then how healthy is your marriage really? I don't want to have to have it done that way again, but Kristen wouldn't hesitate to do it if I ever get that sick again. I'd do the same for her without hesitation.
