Nope, it's kind of standard. Steroid injections and antibiotic injections in dorsogluteal, all others (in our office) go in deltoids. Note, we don't have iron injections in our office, or they would also be gluteal. We also don't carry pain medications.
We also don't use the ventrogluteal location. Personally, I've only used that one on myself, because it's easier to reach. It's located on the lateral side of your hip, below the iliac crest and above the greater trochanter, slightly anterior. Type in "ventrogluteal" on google to get an idea.
If a patient insists on getting something gluteal, sometimes we give in (depends on what it is). Some medications are just made for the deltoid.
