I was at a local garden store picking out plants for our home. The cute little blonde that was helping us cut her hand on one of the metal plant holders. I suggested she go wash it out and put on a bandaid before continuing to help us. being an ER nurse I asked if she knew when her last tetanus was and she said its been a while. I suggested she go get one and she said she just started and did not have any insurance. I expalined I would came back the next day with a tetanus shot. I went back the next day and told her I had her shot. We went into the bathroom. I told her to turn around and unfasten her jean shorts. I told her it hurts less in the butt. She pushed down her jeans. I had her lean over the sink and hold on and flex her right leg. She had a little heart tatooted on her right butt cheek and I placed the needle in the middle of it and gave her shot.

I was working in triage the yesterday when I had this very lovely girl come up to the desk. She was going out to her car in a storm and the car door hit her in the head and she had a laceration which we repaired with 4 staples. Her tetanus was more than five years old so I knew she was going to need one. After I got her vitals and pulled out a Dt from the refrigerator. I asked her to stand up and turn around and lean over. She was wearing a light blue sun dress. I raised up her dress. She was wearing a tiny thong so there was no need to pull them down. As I touched her bottom she tensed. I squeezed her right cheek and injected.

What state do you live in that gives DT shots in the butt, I got mine a couple weeks ago and the pretty young nurse gave it to me in the right arm, I suppose I could have requested it to be given in my butt but was afraid to mention this to her, but she could have ordered me to drop my jeans and I would have. Disappointed in Iowa

Scott: The reason you got the shot in your arm is because that is how they are given. IM nurse and RN are probably one and the same and they are living in a fantasy world. They get off on telling stories like the above but they don't happen, certainly not in these times. What happened to you is how it is in the real world.

I went to the ER last evening after I stepped on a nail while walking on a boardwalk along the beach. I still had on my bathing suit. The male nurse had me lie on the exam table and was cleaning my foot. He told me that he needed to give me a tetanus shot. He lifts up my t shirt. I had on my bikini bottoms and most of my butt cheek was exposed. I felt a small pinch and he said he was done. It was no big deal. My other injections had always made my arm sore. No pain.

I had to get two shots, tetanus and hep. b, two weeks ago and I am not very fond of the sore arm after the shot.
I asked if the shot could be given in the hip/butt area and the nurse told me that if that is where I wanted then I could get these two shots there, but she told me she would check with the nursing staff and doctors to see if I could have my shots in that area.
She came back and told me that they had to be given in the arm because the company that supplies the medication states that they must be given in the arm/shoulder area.
I ended up with two sore arms and no two shots in my rear.

Yesterday my fiance and I went to my doctor for our health insurance medical exam. After the exam he asked if our tetanus was up to date. We looked at each other and said we did not know. He said well we do it today. I remembered how sore my arm was from the last one. I told the male nurse that and he said well I will give it to you in the butt. My fiance stood up and pulled down his shorts and leaned over. I watched as the nurse wiped his butt and then stuck the needle up to hub in his butt. He stood up and said okay honey bare your bum. I was kinda of embarrassed because he had only seen my butt in my bathing suit. I pulled down my shortrevealing my satin underwear. Then I pulled them down. he wathced as I got the needle jab and held my hand. I have to admit the shot did not hurt.

Reg tetnus is givin in a arm, Its the TIG thats givin in the butt,,,,,, Sometimes you will get both a reg tetnus & the TIG depending on the type of injury and you will get both shots if you tell the dr or nurse that you do not remember when you last had a reg tetnus shot.

It is is a small person who is very thin and they do not have much muuscle in their arm I give it in their butt. Most the time it is given in the arm, but I will give it in the butt.

Most of the time I give shots in the arm mainly to save time and for most people shots don't bother them. If a patient is small or has a fear of shots I will recommend they get the shot in their butt and most say after the shot it really didn't hurt as bad.
Last week I had a seventeen year girl who needed a Tetanus , Mennongitis and Hepatitis shot and she was so terrified ,in tears and I suggested she lay down on the exam table and not focus on the shots, I had her put on a headset and played music . I gave her all three shots in the butt and she barely felt them, now she says she will not fear having to get shots.

GUESS I am one who says shots in the butt can HURT LIKE HELL anyone else agree? or had one that sting ,burn and hurt so bad?

I have gotten plenty of shots and they really don't hurt. Most people make themselves terrified of shots and when they get a shot they make it hurt.

Boy, I wish you could have had some of the penicillin shots I received as a kid. 10cc's of penicillin into a little 8 y/o
butt hurts like hell, believe me!

JAY you are so RIGHT,as kid the needles I got in my butt hurt so bad I could not stand it/tensed up that needle would tear through my butt causing incredible pain/

I am 5' 10" and I weigh 125 lbs. and my butt is not fat , I exercise and have a nice muscular butt and I do have feeing in my ass. I agree shots do hurt a little but you have to accept the pain . As I say most people make shots hurt more than they actually do. When given the choice pills or a shot , I always take the shot. I get a B12 shot in my butt three times a week and they don't hurt at all.

I am with you, I hate to take pills. Almost all of them upset my stomach or my bowels. I don't mind getting a shot or two. years back, when they used the big dull needles, they did hurt some but not all that much.

I have to agree as a few yrs back i had to take antibotic ampcillin pills for 2 weeks for a infection, those pills ripped my guts apart the runs 5 times a day i could not even go to work!!!!! would have been better for just a shot of that stuff for 2 weeks would have had a sore butt and thats all.

I have to disagree with those who say shots in the butt DON'T hurt. That's NOT been my experience. Two examples: I received something (probably an antibiotic) just before they took me to OR for abdominal surgery. I was out for most of 24 hours. The third day later, I was careful about how and on what I was sitting.
About seven years ago, I received a catbite which infected my arm. I received a shot of Rocephin in right butt cheek in lieu of spending Christmas Day! I also received a prescription of CIPRO for another two weeks - that stuff tore up my insides resulting in diarrhea for most of that time. Shot in the keister less painful than one in the arm? I don't think so!
