While this wasn't a home visit, everyone and I mean everyone in the room watched my eleven year old. I was a little embarrassed for her but I didn't think fast enough to prevent it from happening. She hit her head and was throwing up. I dont know about now because this was in the late 70s but it was a warning sign then so we rushed her to the hospital.
Once inside ER they did some tests. My husband, my seven year old daughter, eight year old son, two female nurses and one male x-ray technician was in the room. Everything was determined to be ok except for her headache. The nurse told me since she was throwing up a suppository would be better than a pill. I agreed and before I knew it she had her panties down and gloved finger pushing the suppository up. She was crying and screeching a little more from fear than pain but she had been crying most of the time we were there. All of us were leaning over her bed when the nurse did this and all got a good eye full.
I decided from then on I would have everyone leave the room if an embarrassing procedure was going to be done. This wasn't an emergency since this was a last minute thought by the nurse. We got a couple of prescriptions with one consisting of suppositories. She wasnt about to have any of those when we got home and I would think it was more from the embarrassment of everyone watching than the discomfort. She was very modest and shy at that age completely different than my younger daughter.

Did anyone have others besides your immediate family watch certain treatments you got when growing up. Like shots from doctors, rectal temps, enemas and the such? I think it was bad enough when opposite sex family members like sisters and cousins watched, but others outside the family I think were worse.

I had a couple of school friends walk into my room once when my mother was giving me an enema while I lay on the bed. The door was open and they always said they didnt hear my mother telling them to wait outside but thought she said come in.
I was 13 at the time and they had bought some homework from school for me as I had been away ill for several days.

I was 9 or 10. My mom had her friend over the house and I was not feeling well. I got an enema with mom's friend watching. At the time not as embarrassed as I was later on when she came over again and remembered she watched me get an enema.

When my son and daughter where 7 and 9 I would give one of them an enema over my lap while the other was in the tub bathing. They would switch one the first to get the bag took his or her bath. They always wanted to be first so they could get a bath quick bath and watch TV. The enema was never quick since they had to hold several minutes before getting off my lap.

You are right Theresa, enemas were never quick. First of all I fought them because I didn't want one. So it took awhile for my mom to wear me down, lol and get me into the bathroom. Once there I knew my goose was cooked. Promises from my mom that it would only be a "little" enema usually got to cooperate, not remembering that "little" enemas were just not true. Her friend would try and tell me it would be over quickly also and try and calm my fears. After all the non-cooperating, I finally gave in and let my mom pull my pants down and put me over her lap. The "little" enema usually lasted about 10 minutes, sometimes more. My mom and her friend would be talking about what I thought were stupid stuff, while I was trying to take the enema and having cramps.

Their where many times I was laying over my mothers lap getting an enema and my sister would look into the bathroom if the door was ajar.It never bothered me since I knew she got the same treatment.

Carl, if you read my post(s) above, it was cousins who saw me getting an enema. Seems they just "happened" to be there.
