Why the heck are you giving a persuasive speech about current events? You don't have to give extemporaneous speeches all the time ya know...

as for your #1, I know all at least joe and nathan would crack up at a dirty joke, and joe laughs the loudest of most of the people in the class.

Can't do NMD? Hm....feminist ethic of care...machiavellian teleology...on the real world side, maybe seat belts. You could have a demonstration with two chalk erasers that smash into each other and create a giant chalk cloud-"and when you crash without a safety belt, your engine will start to smoke"...maybe respect for teachers (ha! suckup points probable here)...a persuasive speech to join speech and debate?
