Due to a creative writing exercise for English ( yes the ho has done something for me) I've questioned religion again. Hope I don't offend anyone, but please read all of this post and respond, as I would like to believe in something more complete than deism (at least my form of it)--but I can only buy into a religion if it makes sense.
Due to my mom's pressuring, and the funness of church (seriously), I considered regularly attending CFC. But I can't buy into Christianity right now, because of this idea...
Around the world, there are a myriad of religions. Not just the "Big Three"--Christianity, Islam, Buddhism (I think)--but also many minor religions and personal religions such as deism, agnosticism, etc. Now, of the organized religions, they all claim to be the one true faith. If so, that means that only one, if any, of them could be true. Why does the God(s) allow for this worship of false gods? Well, supposedly, God gave man the ability to think and make their own opinions. First, what about those who don't believe in an organized religion because they've never been exposed to it? Many Chinese are aethist because the state controls all religion, even the Catholic Church in China listens to Beijing before the Vatican. Does that mean that millions of Chinese who have no access to the true religion are condemned to the House of Clay, to reincarnation into a lower life form, or to Hell?
But a even bigger reason why I can't buy into an organized religion right now. If God gave us the power to make our own decisions, why would the benevolent God then punish us for not making the right decision? It would be different of there were conclusive proof that one religion was definitely true and that its god was undoubtedly in existance. But since none of the Gods have given proof to us that he exists, how could he rightfully punish us? We are ignorant of which religion is the True one, yet if we happen to have "faith" in the wrong belief system, we get condemned to hell? Wouldn't a benevolent being be more forgiving than that?
