Akira will be released on DVD with special material sometime in 2001 -- and I am looking forward to it!
As for the other two, Tenchi Muyo In Love (the first of the three Tenchi movies) is quite good, though somewhat "silly" at times as well. It's a sci-fi comedy-fantasy series, originally an OAV then turned into a TV Series in Japan, and then unto a series of films. The first film I saw originaly on Sci-Fi and liked it, but I was quite confused about who everyone is.. watching the original series, I found out -- but the series, while good, is not as good as the movie -- so if you are interested in it, you might want to read up on the characters from the web.
Wings of Honnemaise (sp) is quite good, considered one of the anime classics. It tells of an ulternative space-race, and it is a well done "epic" style movie.. different, but a major influence in Japan.
