You are saying that people are willing to forego certain beliefs to not have to go against their core beliefs; Am I following you thus far?

As for crimes of passion, i wonder if they have much to do with love.
I don't think Love will ever lead you to hate.
Hating a hater isn't Love, that much I know regardless of what the bible has said in certain spots.
