it would be nice for a change that the original source is used.
Unfortunately, some original source material was used (abused)... several elements from "The Frost Giant's Daughter" seem to have appeared into the script.
Immediately after the Frost Giant's Daughter abuse, the script moves into "The Lair of the Ice Worm", which, although it appears in the Lancer/Ace editions of Conan, it was not written by Howard. It is a short story written by L. Sprague De Camp (and as far as I am concerned I could do with less De Camp in any future Conan project).
Next, the script is giving Aquilonians Latinized names, and a Roman style government, which is incorrect. And Conan has a mentor named Metallus?
(I am having a hard time believing Michael Blake and William Goldman wrote this script. They wrote Dances with Wolves and the Ghost in the Darkness.) They also got the name of the Aquilonian king wrong. He also has Conan becoming the king of Zingara! Uggh.
The script also has Conan, who is aged by this time, still pining for Valeria, which is a bunch of bull. Conan was never one to pine long over a lost love in Howard's writing.
And the worst thing is, the reviewer loved the script! Good God. What is the world coming to? Just put "The Hour of the Dragon" (AKA "Conan the Conquerer") to script and film it!
