It sounds rather generic. The standard metaphor for society as a brain-robbing machine that enforces conformance is prevalent in many sci-fi plots. The Matrix, X-files, A Brave New World, 1984, and others whose names I can't remember have all fiddled with this idea. Is there anything original about it?
