Subject: Hammer vs Universal Horror: Which is better?

For a long time, I had watched only a few of the old Hammer Horror films, and seen parts of a few others. When I was growing up they had a reputation of being -- derivative -- in quality vs the Universal Horror Films.

I now have been watching the Hammer Films in full force, and enjoying them and finding them better than I imagined them to be. I have found many of them are available for a good value -- 2 films for about $15 if you find them at the right place. Peter Cushing is certainly the best actor, imo, to play Baron Frankenstein. I am trying to get all the DVDs available of the Dracula and Frankenstein "series" now that has either Peter Cushing or Christopher Lee.

Now, in April there will be a re-release of the Universal Monsters stories on DVD. I will be buying them, because they will be too good a deal to pass - 4 DVDS per set, and some places I see sell them for about $17 or so for all four. They will be the Dracula, Frankenstein, and Wolfman Legacy Collections. I have not seen many of the movies in these series -- so I was wondering, will I be surprised at their quality as I was with Hammer Horror? Also, which is really the better of the two? (I seriously think Hammer is now).
