I guess we are talking around each other. I generally consider people who say they are content to be people who have settled for less, because achieving more is difficult.

I guess I am happiest when I feel I am improving things for me and those I care about, when I can see the effects of that improvement. Yes, I guess I am content with my job, but that is largely because I am striving to be yet better at it. I am pretty content with who I am because I am continually striving to make my life better for me.

I guess if that is the definition of contentment, then such is fine. I was defining it as something a little different, a little more sinister, a little more fey.

Good argument. I am convinced.
