I have one of those nifty automatic cameras with some of the nifty extras on it and I like it alot. I bought it over 2 years ago and it cost around $200.
If it is for serious picture taking, I would advise going to a camera shop and talking to a person there. Most of the time they love to give advice about cameras.
If you are taking family pictures, I would get one of the cameras that does the different size shot(pana something) That is one of the things my camera doesnot do and I wish it did.
