Even with anime, there are changes and improvements. Just like the Daleks always looked like Daleks, but improved in how they looked in Doctor Who, so anime also changes, but improves, within a given form. I totally agree, some anime really doesn't impress me at all -- and it still has some of the basic "forms" of anime. Others do -- and I see something greater in those that do, which is still anime -- but has also an added element within them.
