In times past this board and others like it were taken over by the COT followers every Friday afternoon.
They pored over every minute move in the magic commercial short interest number and postulated on the movement of gold, silver and their bowels for the next week all based on what the "commercial" numbers were..
Now, nobody seems to even bother posting the numbers let alone trying to make something out of them, but just for old times sake here they are...

- from peak gold --
mugwump, 19:22:29 11/13/09 Fri
Gold has been a valuable mineral for a long time and for nations all around the world. All the good and easy places to find it, therefore, have been sought after and largely found. The gold deposits that are worked have become smaller of lower value and found in places that are harder to get to. With lower availability, greater demand and higher price, it became more practical to mine and process lower grade deposits and to go deeper into the Earth for the higher grades. Mines in South Africa and in South Dakota have been worked down to more than 2 miles below the surface, to recover the ore. And techniques have been developed that recover it in even very small quantities – 3 gm per tonne is an ore that contains very little gold (3 divided by 1000 = 0.003 kg divided by 1000 = 0.000003 tonnes or 3 parts per million). So, while miners can still find the odd nugget when they pan for gold in streams around the country (and there are lots of maps available to tell you where to look), for the large scale levels of production that make a significant impact on the market, you need large deposits of gold with the potential for greater yields, and those places are getting harder and harder to find. And even as one goes deeper, the grade of the gold doesn’t necessarily continue.
Harmony Gold said yesterday that it may close two more mines over coming months due to poor ore grades.
Gold production in South Africa had fallen 9.3% year-on-year last September--this in the country that once led the world in gold production.
We haven’t run out of gold yet

- dimitri speck on greenspan --
mugwump, 19:19:00 11/13/09 Fri
Greenspan said:
"I have one other issue I'd like to throw on the table. I hesitate to do it, but let me tell you some of the issues that are involved here. If we are dealing with psychology, then the thermometers one uses to measure it have an effect. I was raising the question on the side with Governor Mullins of what would happen if the Treasury sold a little gold in this market. There's an interesting question here because if the gold price broke in that context, the thermometer would not be just a measuring tool. It would basically affect the underlying psychology."
The then FED chief Greenspan himself considers here direct intervention in the gold market! It is clearly about gold sales for the purpose of influencing price. It is not about sales for other purposes (such as managing the reserves), which are announced publicly as reasons for gold sales by the Federal Reserve. Greenspan refers to gold as a "thermometer". He wants to influence its signal effect. If otherwise "thermometer" readings are too high, and the gold price were to suddenly rise in this environment it would fundamentally affect psychology. This quote and the context in which it was made show the main motive for why gold market intervention began a good two months later. It had to do with quelling the signal that would indicate inflation might increase. Against the backdrop of a weak economic environment, the FED was faced with the threat of a continued increase in the inflation rate. An interest rate increase would have weakened the economy further. Central bankers were not clear about the reasons behind the general increase in prices; popular explanations such as a wage-price-spiral were rejected on factual grounds. For this reason they suspected inflation expectations as the driving force behind currency depreciation. The increasing price of gold threatened to magnify those expectations. Intervention in the gold market was introduced so that the "thermometer" would show lower values - and no fever.

- sprott- can you spell inflation?? --
mugwump, 19:15:11 11/13/09 Fri
Eric Sprott: There aren't too many choices when you're in debt to the level that the U.S. government is. As we've outlined in some of our recent articles, one way of calculating it says there's $72 trillion of debt and other way suggests it is $100 trillion. It's almost academic which calculation you use; it's just an overwhelmingly serious problem.
Thank goodness we have a zero interest rate policy. Otherwise, the cost of those obligations would be unbearable. As we analyze where we are and look at all the things that the administration is doing, it certainly seems that they're going to try to spend their way out of it. Last week's announcement regarding the extension of the homeowner credit, in addition to giving corporations loss carry-backs while paying unemployment benefits for an additional 20 weeks—these are all signs of trying to spend their way out of it. It is looking more and more like it will be an inflationary scenario. It could even be hyperinflationary.
I find it instructive that the U.K. has announced another quantitative easing program. I really think that once the Fed has spent the $1.25 trillion buying the GSE paper that we might yet see another level of quantitative easing in the States.

- obama and jobs- schiff --
mugwump (), 19:11:29 11/13/09 Fri
As our economy becomes less competitive due to higher taxes, burdensome and uncertain regulations, and capital flight, more manufacturing and services will be outsourced to foreign firms. However, the flaw in GDP calculation allows the output of those foreign workers to be included in our domestic tally. Since we count the output but not the worker responsible for it, government statisticians attribute the gains to rising labor productivity. To them, it looks like companies are producing more goods with fewer workers.
The reality is that we are producing less with fewer workers. The added “productivity” comes from higher unemployment and larger trade deficits. This is a toxic formula that will have lethal economic consequences.
Don't expect the brain trust at the President's job summit to fret much about these details. That public relations stunt will likely ignore the root cause of the economic imbalances and instead stress the need for government spending on training and education, i.e. more public debt. The unemployed do not need government theatrics, they need actual jobs. But as long as the government props up failed companies, soaks up all available investment capital, discourages savings, punishes employers, and chases capital out of the country, jobs will continue to be lost.

X-CAL closed up 25% today at a new 52 week high. No news release but volume was about twice average for the past 3 months. Charts look good with MACD and RSI rising and BBands looking strong.
They have anywhere from 2.0 to 3.0 million ounces of au and alot of ag in the ground. The intriguing part of their story is that the have over 700,000 ounces above ground that was mined by earlier operators who left ore in heap leach pads etc that was not fully recovered. There are also some hi grade and bonanza grade veins on the property which is a 30 square mile district. X-CAL owns 100% of the property and they have some well known shareholders like Eric Sprott and Kinross Gold. An interesting story!!!

- polenica to acquire 150 million shares of high river gold --
mugwump, 18:55:10 11/13/09 Fri
On October 27, 2009, High River announced a proposed private placement of up to 150,000,000 common shares of the Company to Polenica Investments Limited ("Polenica"), an affiliate of Troika Dialog Group ("Troika"). Subject to negotiation of final agreements and due diligence, Polenica will acquire 150,000,000 common shares, representing approximately 23.1% of the 649,219,422 currently outstanding common shares, at a price of $0.38 per share. As previously announced on October 27, 2009, TSX has conditionally approved the private placement subject to receipt and clearance of a Personal Information Form in respect of Polenica. The proceeds of the private placement will be used by High River to repay the approximately US$27 million plus accrued interest outstanding under the two credit agreements that were assigned by Standard Bank Plc to OAO Severstal ("Severstal") as of April 20, 2009, with the balance being used to fund the exploration program at Buryatzoloto and for general corporate purposes. The private placement was unanimously approved by the Board of Directors of High River, with nominees of Severstal abstaining.
The TSX has received the Personal Information Form in respect of Polenica and it is expected that closing of the private placement will occur as soon as practicable following clearance of such Personal Information Form. It is also expected that concurrently with the closing of the private placement, a nominee of Troika will be appointed to the Board of Directors of High River and to the Audit Committee, provided such nominee qualifies for such appointment under applicable securities legislation.

- Tungsten in fake gold .. --
Delta-au, 18:38:41 11/13/09 Fri
By Mike Hewitt - 13 Nov 2009
In early 2008 it was reported that at least some of the gold bars in the vaults at the National Bank of Ethiopia were fake. The discovery was made when bars shipped from Ethiopia to South Africa were returned after they were identified as being gilded steel.
Gilded steel is a very unconvincing form of fake gold because the density of the iron alloy is significantly less. A steel bar identical in volume to the standard 400 troy ounce gold bars commonly used in bank-to-bank trades would weigh only 162.5 troy ounces (about sixty percent lighter). Anyone familiar with handling gold bars would easily identify them as counterfeit.
Even lead, a common heavy metal, is a poor substitute as it is only 59% the density of gold. One of the things that historically made gold so attractive to be used as money was its unmistakable density.
Nowadays we know of several metals that have similar densities to gold, such as the heavier platinum-group metals. However, using these metals to produce fake gold is unprofitable due to their high cost.
There are two metals that are suitable, from both a density and economic perspective, for manufacturing fake gold - uranium and tungsten.
These metals aren't without their give-aways either. Different chemical and electro-magnetic properties exist. Uranium is of course radioactive. Tungsten is extremely brittle - the exact opposite of gold. Additionally, tungsten has the highest known melting point of any non-alloyed metal at 3422 degrees Celsius, making it difficult to work with. However, it appears that at least one high-temperature furnace is producing gilded tungsten products.
A Chinese company called Chinatungsten is advertising imitation gold merchandise on its website. The following quote is taken directly from their Tungsten Alloy for Gold Substitution page:
"a coin with a tungsten center and gold all around it could not be detected as counterfeit by density measurement alone ... We are well accustomed to exploit more innovative applications of tungsten products. Gold-plated tungsten is one of our main products."
This raises a few (somewhat rhetorical) questions. What kind of customer is this company looking to sell its imitation gold products to and for what purposes are they intended? Furthermore, what exactly are the "more innovative applications of tungsten products" that this company is hinting at?

IRMINGHAM, Alabama (Reuters) - Alabama's Jefferson County sued JPMorgan Securities and JPMorgan Chase and Co on Friday, alleging fraud related to the accumulation of its massive sewer bond debt, a senior county official said.
JPMorgan said the county's suit was "meritless."
The county sued for compensatory and punitive damages, seeking a jury trial over what it says were fraudulent transactions tied to interest rate and bond swaps earlier this decade as it sought to upgrade its sewer system.
"We are suing for fraud because they conspired to profit with interest rate swaps to the detriment of the county," said Assistant County Attorney Charles Wagner..........more

Been doing this for to many years. What bothers me is that I can see massive evidence of naked shorting taking place on many of the mining and oil shares. I am upset that the exchanges on both sides are looking the other way and doing very little about it. I must admit in this matter, Canada is the larger problem. We are in the tangable cycle and I just want paper profits.

http://www.stockwatch.com/newsit/newsit_newsit.aspx?bid=U-pLA11041-U:MMG-20091113&symbol=MMG&news_region=U
The reason MMG dropped from as high as $4-5 the last couple of years is because of the global financing crisis, the drop in metal prices, and the fear that they would go bankrupt and get delisted. It got an extreme discount not because of a decrease in the bottom line metal amounts, but because of fears they wouldn't be able to finance their operations. The operating fundamentals of the project have improved dramatically with the shift to open pit on a much larger mine with much more metal (proven up with extensive drilling).
This deal means they're not going to go bankrupt, they won't get delisted (and should get a Canadian listing), and they were able to obtain the financing required to drill out what's required and to complete the expanded feasibility study. You can call it a paperwork shuffle, but as you say, it "saves this puppy from oblivion."
When a stock is priced for oblivion, and gets saved from it, it returns toward fair valuation. Now we should be able to get more information disclosure so we can better determine what fair valuation should be, but in any case it's likely much, much higher than the recent "oblivion" valuation.

How is a few months "quite a run"?
From 1999 to 2008, oil went up about 1400%. Then a correction came. So now we can say, from 1999 to 2099, oil is up 700%. But there's no inflation. It's all relative and based on one's time frame when measuring who is right and who is wrong. But I'm hard pressed to give credit to someone for being right for a few months (and "being right" means I am being generous in my definitions). I'd label it more an example of the broken clock syndrome.

ULYANOVSK, Russia (Reuters) - At least two people were killed on Friday when a chain of explosions ripped apart a Russian arms depot on Friday, shattering windows for miles around and forcing the evacuation of 3,000 people.
Russia's Federal Security Service said a fire broke out at 1300 GMT when soldiers attempted to decommission munitions at navy Arsenal No. 31 on the outskirts of Ulyanovsk, a city of 625,000 people, 800 km (500 miles) southeast of Moscow.
The fire raged for at least five hours, lighting up the evening sky above the city, said a Reuters witness who added the windows of houses several kilometers away were shattered by the force of the blasts.

- The downside of a weak dollar -- Sherlock, --
2bro2b, 14:39:04 11/13/09 Fri
from the article--
For the generations of college kids who learned the ABCs of global economics from Paul Samuelson, a weak dollar is supposed to tip the balance of trade in favor of the nation's exporters. So why is the trade deficit exploding?
from elsewhere--
The fondness of mainstream economists for socialism is seen in Samuelson's "Economics." In the 10th edition, published in 1976, Samuelson wrote, "It is a vulgar mistake to think that most people in Eastern Europe are miserable." Samuelson put the Soviet gross national product at "between one-half and three-fourths of ours in size." Graphs in the 10th and 11th editions showed Soviet GNP surpassing U.S. GNP around 2010, based on "best expert opinion."
A graph in the 12th edition, published in 1985, showed the Soviet economy growing 4.9% a year since 1928 compared with 3% a year for the U.S. since 1929. By the 1970s, however, there were signs that all was not well in the worker's paradise. The Soviet Union began importing vast amounts of U.S. grain. It was also borrowing heavily from foreign sources.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Samuelson is also author (and since 1985 co-author) of an influential principles textbook, Economics, first published in 1948, now in its 19th edition. The book has been translated into forty-one languages and sold over four million copies. Written in the shadow of the Great Depression and World War II, it helped to popularize the insights of John Maynard Keynes.
Lots of economic reports, and Obama also visits China. Which means, there are a lot more chances for bad news and lower stock prices. If you expect the numbers to be good and for Obama not to try to placate the chinese with talky- talky, about how we will reduce our deficits, and how we support a strong dollar, then go ahead and hold on. Myself. I took profits earlier on most of my gold stocks. I sold AUY my biggest holding at $12.75. Right now that's looking good. Next week. Who knows ? But I'll sleep much better this weekend. And besides, Rip says I worry too much. He 's probably right. But I still haven't had a losing trade in over two years. So maybe worrying too much is a good thing in this business?
The word circulated that BIS would buy freely in the open at prices below $280. There was nothing to lose by doing so.
Now that India has purchased gold at $1045, what has it to lose by purchasing gold at any lesser price, so long as it has dollars or can get dollars for its official paper ?
You asked me how I would feel if I learned that he was in fact short didn't you?
Look...USD goes lower then I'm happy with my silver...it goes higher and I'm happy about buying potentially cheaper gold (remember that I'm buying in CAD and coins so there are more factors at play than just the USD going up for me...gold needs to come down in CAD and the coin shop has to bring down the prices as well....not a sure thing at all). I cannot lose here right now.
His record speaks for itself.....that period was nice to see that the guy is human...his calling tops in gold have been remarkably accurate over the years.
I asked him on many occasions in my kindest language about his shorts at the time he placed them (the ones you mention)...he blew me off but laughed later about not listening to me...
I'd still take his YOY performance over most here any day of the week. I'd say that max. two people here post better numbers...if even that much.
We have been prepped for this for so long now. It seems that the [concocted] cloud from the expected I.M.F. gold sales has been a threat to the gold price, for years. Now the clouds of speculation are being blown away and reality is presenting itself in a way never expected. Part of this has been the expectation that the I.M.F. gold sales would be dragged out over a long period. As we have been telling Subscribers for an equally long period, we did not think this would be the case, because the purpose of the sale was to maximize the proceeds and quickly. Now with India taking 200 tonnes of the 403.3 tonnes, our position has been verified.
India’s Gold Purchase - The Facts: -
The announcement of the sale of 200 of the 403.3 tonnes of gold at an average price of $1,045 is, we believe, the first of a minimum of two announcements that will see the 403.3 tonnes completely sold.
mugwump, 13:37:22 11/13/09 Fri
Scarcity factor – Throughout history, only 165,000 tonnes of gold has ever been mined. At today’s price, all this gold is valued at almost US$5.5 trillion which is a tiny sum when compared to the gigantic pools of base money in circulation. Remember, central banks are currently sitting on US$8 trillion worth of paper money reserves and the broad money supply on a global basis is a whopping US$60 trillion! As governments all over the world desperately create money out of thin air, it is our view that gold’s value will appreciate as its scarcity relative to printed currencies increases.
In parting, we firmly believe that the investment demand for gold will increase in the future. Fortunately, for the gold bulls, this incremental demand will be met by sales from current owners who will want a much higher price as compensation for parting with the ultimate store of value during these turbulent times.
- @"India buy already in profit...." So, India purchased gold with official paper -- mozel (), 13:31:31 11/13/09 Fri
which the exchange market now decrees is worth more in official paper than it was before.
When coin of gold is the money, you cannot buy any amount of gold with official paper. If you can buy gold with official paper, proving gold is not the money, then the amount of gold which can be had for an amount of official paper will be manipulated by those who can manipulate, both private and public.
RIP is reading this exactly correctly. Goldman Sachs is the Jay Gould of today but behind Sachs stands ... Rothschild's. Gold is rising in all official papers for reasons, reasons of self-interest.
The only way to prevent the corrupt manipulation by power of the ratio of official paper to gold is to forestall the concentration of gold by constituting gold coinage and payment and by supporting that constitution. Lack of support to this Constitution by corrupted judges is the reason this Constitution failed on the money questions.
Karen: whenever I read of scientists dismissing the uncertainties and unpredictabilities associated with complexity – such as giving uniform medications to people of diverse makeups – I feel obliged to remind them of an underlying premise of the study of chaos. Harlow Shapley expressed the matter in this way: “Chaos is but unperceived order; it is a word indicating the limitations of the human mind and the paucity of observational facts. The words ‘chaos,’ ‘accidental,’ ‘chance,’ ‘unpredictable,’ are conveniences behind which we hide our ignorance.” “Coincidence” and “anecdotal” are two additional words that serve the same end of disguising our inability to make predictions in a complex world.
Just no longer fits in my life the way it did before (trading, stock market). Every man decides what works best for him...in my case it involves less of that and more of my role as a father....maybe 10-15 years down the line I'll return to it....who knows? Being a full-time dad and doing a good job at it isn't really compatible with 3-4 simultaneous jobs (calling trading a 'job' as well here) at any given moment. I dropped two different activities recently, building and trading. Picked up a totally new project that involves more control over my schedule (maybe in a few months I can talk more about it) - still involved with a couple of other businesses....also with lots of control over my schedule. Nice to see that I did a good job at building....have turned down 3 fairly big projects in the past month alone....people still seeking me out even though I have "retired" from that world.
Sorry missed your previous post. I am woundering if I will also pull the plug on the shares. I do not like what I am seeing. They are so easily manipulated with naked shorting. I will be away for a few weeks leaving Saturday. When I return I will most likely be taking money out of the market. I have just recently recovered from last years take down in commodities and do not want to do it again. Currently I have been in the market to long and want a break therefore will most likely be out by spring.
Been pretty much all physical for a while now - with respect to my PMs. I have also been completely out of the stock markets for about a month now. My paper certs were sold up until about this past summer....all physical left.
I'm just not too happy having this money sit in CAD if it can be held in gold coin....even if it is only during these next 3-9 months or so. Since it is money that I will be spending, I will be cashing them into CAD as needed.....
Did you get that post I gave you regarding Vancouver dealers? Looks like your banking some of your paper profits into physical. Good luck. I had purchased my physical positions years ago and have not added to them. The problem has always been the Canadian dollar. When gold and silver were cheap, the exchange rate sucked. Therefore while most Americans have seen a 4x return up here in the north 2x is the best so far. When i was buying i had to covert 1.5 to 1.6 for I US dollar. Than the Canadian dollar become stronger and now my stupid Central Bank is trying to keep the Canadian dollar weak again. In reality we should be 2x relative to the US dollar, given the mess taking place in the States. But up here in Canada our goverment officals are wankers!
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Consumer sentiment pulled back in early November, according to media reports on Friday of the Reuters/University of Michigan index. The consumer sentiment index fell to 66.0 from 70.6 in October. The decrease was unexpected. The consensus forecast of Wall Street economists was for sentiment to rise to 71.8. After hitting 73.5 in September, the index has now fallen in two straight months.
Martin A. Armstrong, the director of Princeton
Economics International Ltd., an investment-advisory firm that has
allegedly lost as much as $950 million in Japanese corporate investment
money, was arrested and charged with securities fraud in New York.
Mr. Armstrong is a 49-year-old market
forecaster in New Jersey who has been widely
quoted about commodities and other
investments and has long been one of the most
active silver traders on the New York
Mercantile Exchange's Comex division. He
was also the subject of a separate civil
complaint filed Monday following an
investigation by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and
Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
Despite his active silver trading, it is difficult to tell exactly how much of
Comex's silver stockpiles Mr. Armstrong controls. What is clear is that he
also had strong views about gold. In recent weeks Mr. Armstrong's
predictions for gold had become exceedingly bearish.
However, Comex gold prices -- though in a sharp downtrend in recent
years -- are essentially unchanged compared with a year ago and actually
have risen modestly lately. Since the beginning of August, prices have
advanced $1 an ounce to $257.20. "My guess is that his silver strategy
would have been following his gold strategy, which was extremely bearish,"
one New York metals analyst said.
Hope you are right....wouldn't mind getting gold cheaper and buying next week....problem of course is that the coin prices don't move much with the metals....the premiums just increase generally...all the same the coins I am looking at are down a few bucks....wouldn't mind $20 more CAD off the price.....
Gold up nicely in Asia and the US dollar was down hard. Just before the US market opens, the Crimex boys start the rigging. Firstly make the US dollar look strong and take gold down. Between London and Crimex these boys have been allowed to make money without a printing press. Would sure be nice to see them get badly burned. But with the Blessing of the US Fed, lots of luck. Currently 10,000 gold contracts in the money. They need to bring them down by next week.
I know they filed an appeal...but problems?
MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Nov. 12, 2009) - In a press conference held in Mexico City on November 10th, Mauricio Limon, Undersecretary for Environmental Protection at the Mexican ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), declared that the ministry would enforce a recent superior court ruling and withdraw New Gold's (NGD:$3.81,00$0.00,000.00%) environmental impact permit between now and Friday, November 13th. The company, he declared, would at that point have to cease operations at its Cerro de San Pedro project. The Undersecretary's statements were reported in the November 11th edition of La Jornada, one of Mexico's leading national newspapers.(1)
On September 24th, the Federal Fiscal and Administrative Justice Tribunal of Mexico ruled that the SEMARNAT must retire the permit granted to the company back in April 2006. The tribunal gave the ministry until the 13th of November to apply this ruling.
In response, a bi-national declaration was signed this week by Canadian Parliamentarians and members of the Mexican congress urging the relevant Mexican authorities to enforce the tribunal's decision. It was signed by Gilles Duceppe, Pierre Paquette, Francine Lalonde and Johanne Deschamps for the Bloc Quebecois; Jack Layton, Peter Julian and Paul Dewar for the New Democratic Party; Elizabeth May for the Green Party; Alejandro Encinas Rodriguez for the seventy members of the Partido de la Revolucion Democratica; and Pedro Vasquez Gonzalez for the thirteen members of the Partido del Trabajo.
The declaration notes the severe and in many cases irremediable damages that New Gold's project has wrought to the valley of San Luis Potosi - inhabited by approximately 1.3 million people - since it began operations in 2006. It supports the ruling of the Mexican tribunals in putting an end to this project, calls upon the relevant Mexican authorities to enforce this ruling and demands that New Gold-Minera San Xavier respect the laws of Mexico.
In today’s world there are many organizations fighting against anti-Semitism, striving towards new legislation to renewed awareness, and all of them are making a difference. But these conventional avenues take time and money and a great deal of planning.
How about in the meantime we all just hug it out? That’s the theory behind Hug A Jew Day set to take place this Friday November 13th at the stroke of midnight, wherever you are in the world. The concept is as simple as the day, find a Jewish person and give him or her a hug. It can be one or one hundred, the choice is yours to make.
- Got tungsten? --
Iainmac, 04:36:12 11/13/09 Fri
“Gold Finger - A New Take On Operation Grand Slam With A Tungsten Twist”
I’ve already reported on irregular physical gold settlements which occurred in London, England back in the first week of October, 2009. Specifically, these settlements involved the intermediation of at least one Central Bank [The Bank of England] to resolve allocated settlements on behalf of J.P. Morgan and Deutsche Bank – who DID NOT have the gold bullion that they had sold short and were contracted to deliver. At the same time I reported on two other unusual occurrences:
1] - irregularities in the publication of the gold ETF - GLD’s bar list from Sept. 25 – Oct.14 where the length of the bar list went from 1,381 pages to under 200 pages and then back up to 800 or so pages.
2] - reports of 400 oz. “good delivery” bricks of gold found gutted and filled with tungsten within the confines of LBMA approved vaults in Hong Kong.
Why Tungsten?
If anyone were contemplating creating “fake” gold bars, tungsten [at roughly $10 per pound] would be the metal of choice since it has the exact same density as gold making a fake bar salted with tungsten indistinguishable from a solid gold bar by simply weighing it.
Unfortunately, there are now more sordid details to report.
HANOI, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam will import gold after being halted since May 2008, said a report on the website of the State Bank of Vietnam on Friday.
The move aims to stabilize the gold price in the domestic market which has been pushed up at a record high in the past days, said the bank.
The move followed the gold price in the domestic market reaching a record high of about 1,622 U.S. dollars a gold bar, weighing 37.5 grams. The price is higher than the gold price in the international market which was hovering at 1,122 U.S. dollars an ounce.
They needed something and are making me a deal that if I admit to being a rotten and careless employer they will reduce the fine for a lack of a formal degreed program for the peons that are too inept to function without a piece of paper that certifies their intelligence in moving a pallet of steel.
I should have shown pictures of the GLD pallet setup to the OSHA gal that fined me, and asked her to give an opinion on the safety of the GLD ETF warehouse technique.
RBI's big gold buy yields Rs 1500 crore
AHMEDABAD: The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) decision to buy 200 tonnes of gold at a value of $6.7 billion from International Monetary Fund in October end has already yielded a notional gain of whopping Rs 1,544 crore.
Since the announcement of the big buy on November 3, 2009, RBI has made a gain of a whopping Rs 1,544 crore, considering the international price of gold at $1,115 per ounce at 6 pm on November 12. The average price of RBI purchase was $1,045 per ounce. RBI had purchased 200 tonnes of gold over a two-week period during October 19-30 this year at market-based prices.
Going by the popular belief that gold loves bad news, RBI’s move clearly suggests that it wants to diversify the forex holding in order to protect against the slumping dollar.
God's Work and Goldman's Prayer
In case you missed it Goldman Sachs CEO Says Bank is Doing 'God's Work'.
While acknowledging the role of banks in the financial meltdown, the CEO of Goldman Sachs said recently he believes his company is doing "God's work."
"We're very important. We help companies to grow by helping them to raise capital. Companies that grow create wealth," CEO Lloyd Blankfein said in a recent interview. "This, in turn, allows people to have jobs that create more growth and more wealth. We have a social purpose."
Given that Goldman is doing "God's work" and that CEO Lloyd Blankfein is arguably "god on earth", it is fitting for there to be a prayer in his honor.
Tonight I received a prayer in the email dedicated to Lloyd. Unfortunately I do not know the origin, so I do not know who to credit. I also modified a few sentences that I did not think fit very well and added sentences where they were missing.
My Version of "Lloyd's Prayer"
Our chairman who art at Goldman
Blankfein be thy name
Thy rally’s come, God’s work be done
In the Dow as it is in the Nasdaq
Give us this day our daily gain
And forgive us our frontruning, as we punish those who frontrun against us
And bring us not under indictment
But deliver us from regulators
For thine is the cashflow, and the power, and the bonuses, forever and ever. Amen
Version as Received
OUR CHAIRMAN
WHO ART AT GOLDMAN
HALLOWED BE THY NAME
THE RALLYS COME,GODS WORK BE DONE
WE HAVE NO FEAR OF CORRECTION
GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY GAIN
AND BANKRUPT OUR NEAREST COMPETITORS
LEAVING NO ONE LEFT TO STAND AGAINST US
AND BRING US NOT UNDER INDICTMENT
FOR THINE IS THE TREASURY
AND THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE
FOREVER AND EVER
GOLDMAN
Addendum:
"Black Swan" Comments:
When I went to elementary school, we started each day with the Lord's Prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Since the LLoyd's Prayer has already been covered, why not cover the Pledge of Subservience?
Pledge of Subservience
I pledge Allegiance to the Fed
of the United States of America
and to the corruption for which it stands,
one nation under Goldman, easily divisible,
with criminal acts against all.
interesting that USSA bobming civilians triggered
key Western defections to the soviets.
Americans seem unable to understand how distasteful
civilian murder by the military can be to other people ..
click favourites, organize, import/backup, then "export" as html to the medium most suitable-- in your case I believe a 5 1/4 floppy but you could also use a CD or DVD-- thereupon you insert the transfer medium in your new toy and again click favourites, organize, import...
It may not be precisely like that but the procedure is largely intuitive starting with the "favourites" menu.
- Blast at Nato base in Afghanistan --
Iainmac, 23:30:48 11/12/09 Thu
An explosion has hit a Nato-led military base in Afghanistan's capital, Kabul, according to a military spokesman.
The blast struck Camp Phoenix, one of the main bases used by Western troops, early on Friday morning, Sergeant Kevin Bell said.
An Afghan police source said the blast was caused by a suicide bomber.
The area had been sealed off by Western forces casualties were expected, he said.
the word "terrorism" originally meant exactly this: "government atrocities committed against the people of a colony to instill fear, so that people would not resist their rulers." You can check this out in the Oxford English Dictionary. But governments like to turn things upside down, (such as robbing from the poor to enrich the rich etc.) And they turned this word upside down, and now they use it to mean atrocities committed by people against governments. Just another part of the full-spectrum trance induced on the unwitting populace by the masters of deceit.
b_w, 22:37:38 11/12/09 Thu
Well that is the beauty of it. No matter who you want to kill or where you want to invade they are "terrorists" or are supporting "terrorism".
"Terrorism" is a subset of evil. Most people would considering bombing wedding parties evil.
