Consider the Big East, more a franchise than a conference. Too many schools, and let's face it we're usually a one-bid league, mean some schools won't ever have a shot at the NCAA basketball tournament, for example. Adding schools won't make the league better unless they're great at something.

I could never understand droping schools in some sports before a replacement was found. For some sports it put us at the mimnimum to qualify for the auto-bid. I know the plan was to encourage all sports assn. but apparently the powers that were didn't have a clue as to who would join or why!!
