I don't understand Lafalum urgency for the league to take on someone else? We seem very stable with the 8 teams for all sports with none of those schools ready to leave as far as I know. Fordham and Georgetown filling in for football to make up a 7 team league also seems stable with no imminent departure foreseen there except the constant Fordham rumors.

A seven team football league is perfect to provide non-conference options including Ivy, CAA and even a 1A game once in a while. If and when Fordham or Georgetown were to leave, we would have time to find someone to fill in at that time since no one leaves without adequate notice to react. I like the current compliment of schools in the PL and unless a Richmond or Villanova would knock on our door, there is no need for any panic moves IMO.

Actually your statement is not true regarding 8 teams in all sports. Football and Men's Lacrosse have 7,Softball,baseball,field hockey, and women's lacrosse have 6 which is minimum for an automatic bid the NCAA tournament.
Yes if someone gives notice that is too late as we scramble to replace that school. Depending on who left potentially 4 sports could lose their auto bid. In any case the league should make themselves attractive now rather than leave us at the precipice. The key to making us attractive and prepare us for the many realignments that are taking place in Div 1 sports is football scholarships and perhaps scholarships in all sports.

I have no problem with scholarships based upon other than need so long as there is League oversight of those scholarships to insure academic integrity.

How do you feel about VMI joining the PL as they are interested in joining now for all sports?

I agree with you on the academic intergrity issue. Given the AI issues, we have to be a league that is somewhat homogeneous with regard to admissions because the weaker academic schools will always have an advantage. I think VMI would be a great fit if they were to improve the number of their sports. They only have 14 sports. There are no women's sports in basketball, FH,Lacrosse, volleyball and softball. They do have a wrestling and Rifle team but that doesn't help in the PL.
I would really like to see Army and Navy move football to FCS which would make our league very, very attractive. My ideal candidates are Richmond, W and M,Villanova, RPI (when qualified), Hopkins (when qualified), but there is nothing new there!!

My understanding is that they have expressed interest to the league for all sports without a formal response but that Holy Cross and Colgate supposedly have issues with regular travel to Lynchburg.

Colgate has been a "road team" for years throughout its history.

If this interest exists, the PL should take it and run.

Is the information from, in your opinion, a good source?
